The Great British Columbia ShakeOut @ShakeOutBC and Social Media - Details and Questions??

Did you know that on Wednesday January26 at 10 AM (Pacific Time Zone) an event being billed as the largest earthquake drill in Canadian history will be taking place - enter The Great British Columbia ShakeOut.

I'm simply sharing details because I recently noticed a sign at a local rec center promoting the event - I'm guessing that similar notices are posted in most other prominent government buildings and public spaces.

In all honesty though, I'm doing this somewhat as a community announcement because it's been my observation that many if not most people I've met have not heard of the event nor do they know its taking place. Out of curiosity I asked all 3 of my children, who attend public school in Victoria area and to my surprise none have been made aware of the event. I'm guessing the schools aren't involved which really does surprise me... although perhaps the date and time is not convenient with them due to class scheduling, Provincial exams etc...

Anyway, the fact that http://twitter.com/ShakeOutBC has less than 100 Twitter followers at the time of writing this and the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ShakeOutBC has fewer than 600 Likes tells me that perhaps a little word of mouth (WOM) will help. In all honesty, I'm a little surprise by the lack of attention to such a "big" event.

On the up-side, apparently over 370,000 people have registered for the event (this according to their fb page) - the link to follow from that particular post leads me to a broken link though! Perhaps many traditional workers are in the know, however, with such a large population of people that telecommute, co-work etc... it seems perhaps this group may not be in the know.

I'm not sure what agency(s) are organizing this event or if its a public or private initiate.. that information is not visible (As far as I can see) on the official website.
